Description

20 February marks one year since Coroner Hawkins recommended a medically-supervised injecting centre (MSIC) in North Richmond. To coincide with the anniversary, RAP is hosting an event that explores how this recommendation has progressed and where we have yet to go.

Fiona Patten (Reason Party) will oversee a panel that includes Dr Kate Seear (Monash University), Ms Judy Ryan (Residents for Victoria Street Drug Solutions) and Magistrate John Hardy. The panel will discuss an array of perspectives on the MSIC. These include: lessons that can be learned from the campaign to establish the MSIC, the way MSICs reshape drug harms and the strategies that resident groups and other agencies can use to ensure the success of the MSIC trial.

The establishment of the MSIC is a big step in the right direction. It promotes harm minimisation and community safety. Now, let’s focus on getting it right!

The event is free, but registrations are essential.
