Liberty Victoria welcomes new President

Barrister George Georgiou SC is the new President of Liberty Victoria.

Elected at the recent annual meeting, he was welcomed by outgoing President Jane Dixon QC who said: “Liberty's role in advocating for civil liberties and justice is particularly important at the present time.

"George Georgiou is a passionate and dedicated lawyer who has always shown a willingness to look out for the underdog.

“He is fortunate to be taking over the helm of a strong and united organization which is uniquely placed to confront the many challenges ahead."

Mr Georgiou said, “I do recognise the importance of the work of Liberty Victoria, particularly  in the face of the ever increasing erosion of human rights and liberties, and I look forward to making a contribution to the challenges of the year ahead.”

Ms Dixon is now Immediate Past President, while barrister Jessie Taylor is Senior Vice President. The Vice-Presidents are Jamie Gardiner, Thomas Kane and Michael Stanton.
