A great photographer's work for a fine cause
Liberty Victoria was proud to present this fascinating selection of signed, original photographs by the acclaimed photographer Wolfgang Sievers. The photographs were among those bequested by the late Wolfgang Sievers to Julian Burnside, QC, and were being sold to support the work of Liberty Victoria and other human rights organisations.
Portraying poverty in Berlin in 1933 and fishermen in Portugal two years later, the collection also includes internationally acclaimed examples of the strength and extraordinary beauty of industrial photography. A refugee from Nazi Germany, Sievers believed in the inherent dignity of the labourer and so created brilliant theatrical photographs, often capturing industrial machinery at night, isolating details with artificial light and dramatically portraying workers.
