For his outstanding contribution to free speech, Arnold Zable is the 2013 Voltaire Award recipient. In his presentation Story, Empathy and Human Rights Advocacy Zable drew on his three decades of work as a writer, novelist and refugee advocate, and his activism with the Melbourne Centre of PEN International – an organisation that defends imprisoned writers – to highlight the power of story in human rights advocacy. He also addressed the art of story and the means by which we encourage the voiceless and traumatised to tell their own stories.
We were delighted to share the night with Aria award winning folk singer Kavisha Mazella who performed, and our MC for the night, comedian, writer and performer Corinne Grant.
