ALAN MISSEN ORATION: BORDER VIGILS

BIG IDEAS: ALAN MISSEN ORATION: BORDER VIGILS - HOW FAR CAN GOVERNMENTS PATROL MIGRATION?

Jeremy Harding has been tracking asylum seekers and undocumented migrants on their perilous journeys since the 1990s: in Serbia and Albania, Italy, North Africa, northern France, and the US-Mexican border. Attitudes have changed since he began his own border vigils, and globalisation has drawn migration into stark relief. Is it time we recognised that our frontiers, already under pressure from global market forces, will also be challenged by human beings in search of work and safety?

Presented in partnership with Liberty Victoria and made possible with support from the Alan Missen Foundation.
