Calls to abolish mandatory QR check-ins

Requirements to check-in to venues using QR codes are being questioned now the data collected is no longer used for COVID-19 contact tracing.

Liberty Victoria raised concerns about the ongoing use of the check-in system on the basis it was an invasion of people’s right to privacy.

Barrister and Liberty Victoria spokesperson Gemma Cafarella said the information being recorded and stored was deeply personal as it identified people and tracked their movement.
