Voltaire Award Dinner 2015

Liberty Victoria has the pleasure of inviting you for a celebration of free speech. The annual Voltaire Award Dinner is a night of great conversation, food and music and a chance to get to know the people and support the work of Liberty Victoria, one of Australia's leading civil liberties organisations.

The recipients of the Liberty Victoria Voltaire Award 2015 are Al Jazeera journalists Peter Greste, Baher Mohamed and Mohamed Fahmy. This award acknowledges the courage and persistence of the "three brothers" in reporting news of the traumatic events in Egypt and their dignified and principled stance in the face of persecution by the authorities and, sadly, the judicial process.

The 2015 Award Dinner's keynote speaker is Michael Bachelard, Indonesia correspondent for Fairfax Media between 2012 and 2015, and now the Investigations Editor at The Age.  Michael will talk about his first encounter with Peter Greste and then consider some of the issues threatening a journalists' right to free speech in Australia.

Our MC on the night will be writer, comedian, author and social commentator, Catherine Deveny while Sudanese Australian singer and songwriter Ajak Kwai will enthrall us with her music.
