Stuart Grant

Fearless Voices 'Shouter'

Dr Stuart Grant is old enough to know better but too stupid to listen.

He is the singer/guitarist with noisepunk legends The Primitive Calculators ( Pumping Ugly Muscle, Do That Dance). Filmmaker Richard Lowenstein included the Primitive Calculators in his 1986 film Dogs In Space, which was based on the Little Bands scene they had created.

He has also performed with lounge stylists Mr Bum & Ruby, cabaret auteurs Ski Low Low & soul mavens the Hard Word.

Stuart is a senior lecturer in the Centre For Theatre and Performance at Monash University. He teaches and researches across an eclectic range of genres and practices. His main theoretical research interest is performance philosophy, particularly phenomenology.

He leads the musical theatre program, teach site-specific performance modules and contemporary/avant-garde performance. He supervises PhD and MA candidates in all these disciplines as well as sound, music and poetry in performance.

He is the founder of the Urban Water Performance Group, a collaboration of artists and other researchers interested in water sustainability in urban contexts. In his spare time, he waits to die.
